Case study · Mobile AR museum experience
Museo Jurásico AR: bringing prehistoric characters into the visit.
A mobile augmented reality experience for museum visitors, using on-site markers to unlock animated prehistoric content directly inside the exhibition space.
AR works best in museums when it adds a reason to look again.
The experience invites visitors to scan physical markers inside the space and discover prehistoric characters layered over the real museum environment. The result is playful, immediate and understandable without adding operational friction.
The video material shows the core interaction clearly: find the marker, scan it with the phone camera, trigger the character and let the visitor move around the scene.
What mattered technically
Mobile AR needs to be lightweight, stable and forgiving. The experience has to deal with lighting, floor surfaces, visitor movement and the natural impatience of public-facing museum use.
Why it fits TotemXR
It combines the studio’s cultural and educational side with production constraints: real users, real devices, real spaces and content that needs to feel alive without requiring complex hardware.
Mobile-first evidence
Shown as it is used: vertical, handheld, inside the museum.
The source material is a phone recording, so the case presents it as a vertical mobile interaction instead of forcing it into a landscape portfolio crop.
- Marker scan in the physical space
- AR character layered into the visitor path
- Lightweight interaction suitable for public use
